Humanitarian aid

Humanitarian aid accounts for about a third of our work. Finnchurchaid is a signatory to the Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross and NGOs in disaster relief.

Finnchurchaid has a special emergency reserve fund to facilitate a quick response to catastrophes.

In 2002, support was given for example to victims of so-called forgotten emergencies. These were, among others, refugees and displaced people in Angola, Zambia, West Africa and Chechnya.

Food aid and other immediate emergency aid were given to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sudan. Those suffering from floods and drought were assisted in Zimbabwe and Central America.
